What kind of job would be good for international transfer?

I live in Hawaii, USA and want to go to a school in Australia. Not being a resident makes it quite expensive. If I were to have a job that could transfer there I could work until I can claim residency. I have plans for renewable energy engineering at New South Wales University.|||G%26#039;day,

Please be advised that as an international student, you can only work for a maximum of 20hrs/week during study period, and full-time during holiday period. Therefore you should not depend on the part-time job that you can do while you are an international student in Australia.

Some of the jobs that may be able to earn you good income is admin or data entry jobs.

You can check the Department of Immigration website to confirm this information.

Hope this helps. Good luck for your study and welcome to Australia.

How do I go about searching for a job that pays under the table?

I am a college student living in NorCal, and I am unable to apply for a normal-paying job because of unresolvable residency issues that complicate the process. I%26#039;m in desperate need of income, so I%26#039;ve decided to turn towards jobs with under-the-table payment. My question is, how would one begin to search for a job that pays under-the-table?|||Check small businesses. Like small convenience stores.|||start with small corner markets. also known as mom and pop stores because they%26#039;re usually family owned and operated. They will hire that way because they don%26#039;t bring in much money and they have to pay tax on each employee that they have.|||That is illegal, so you therefore need to find employers who are criminal. Get up early in the morning, and go hang out at Home Depot and wait for somebody who has a day job for you.|||Just ask any illegal immigrants. That is the main way they get paid. And if you are in L.A., contact me and I%26#039;ll see what I can do for you!|||The job usually won%26#039;t be advertised anywhere other than a shop window. The way to find it is the same way most jobs are found - through friends and door-knocking.

Are there other students in the same situation? Try asking them if they know of any jobs. Find out what types of jobs they are doing, and door-knock those types of businesses.

In the 80s I was a jobless foreigner without a greencard in San Francisco. Another Aussie I met was working as a bike courier. His boss didn%26#039;t have any jobs, so I phoned every courier company in the yellow pages, and out of 22 one of them had an opening. Took me 2 days to be (illegally) employed.

The most likely jobs to be under the table are the lowest paid, unfortunately - but knowing that might help you locate them (hint, they are the jobs that most people don%26#039;t want to do...)|||Go to your citys local day laborers center. What kind of job does our public school system do in teaching history?

I am 60 years old and I have always enjoyed history. From time to time I put questions of history on here and from the answers I get I realize that a lot of people on here have very little knowledge of history. So does our public high schools do a lousy job of teaching history?|||Considering the fact that I know a 16 year old girl who didn%26#039;t know what a Nazi was, I%26#039;ll have to say yes.|||I would say yes. What is the job title for some one who works with endangered animals and the environment?

I working on college plans and i need help? I want to work with endangered animals and help with conservation. I know someone who get to travel around and gets to count birds and currently gets to live in Alaska and work there. I am an Environmental Scientist.

Wildlife biology is a multi-disciplinary approach to the study of wild animals and their habitats. Research and technical investigations are performed by scientists educated in wildlife biology, zoology, botany, chemistry, mathematics, or various combinations of these disciplines. Their official professional career title is %26quot;Wildlife Biologist.%26quot;

To be honest... you can major in something closely related and then later specialize in a field you prefer such as endangered species and conservation.

There are soo many terms, too many to name. So many different ways to branch in college with a field such as wildlife bio.

You might want to look into summer internships in Alaska. It would be a great experience for someone looking to go to college for a specific field. It would be great on a resume and also give you a really great idea about what its like to do that sort of work (that way you dont spend 4 years going to school only to find out its not what you want to do)

My advice when it comes to college is this.....

Enroll and take your core classes first. Get to know the professors in the biology department and check into the courses offered. Talking to the Department head is always a really good idea . He/She can give you direction and guidance on how to reach your ultimate goal.

Dont know how old you are, but if youre going soon, you can always make an early trip to campus, introduce yourself, network a bit. It seems to make the transition a lot easier.

Another piece of advice... DO NOT take chem your first semester unless youre just a wiz, hahha

Good luck Kiddo....feel free to email me with any more questions!!!|||work at the Humane Society or WWF. if u do not know what i am talking about, go to humanesociety.org or wwf.org. you can also sign petitions at protectseals.org to save seals from the evil Canadian seal hunt. when you visit the site for the humane society, you can sign petitions there, too. if you go to WWF you can adopt an endangered animal to save it. also on care2.org you can click once a day on different subjects to convince the government that it is a big problem, such as global warming.

Experience for pilot job in regional airlines?

All regional airlines require atleast 500-600 hrs of experience in order to apply for a pilot job. My question is- how can one have so much experience unless he is employed previously? Please advice on how can i build my experience after getting my Commercial pilot license. Do any of you have personal experience on this? Thanks|||There are many ways. You can be a CFI and instruct people. There are some small cargo firms that fly Cessna 206%26#039;s and similar aircraft. And you must have at least 250 hours for a Commercial certificate.|||Yes, people get that experience by being employed in various entry level flying positions like:

share time as a safety pilot (both get PIC*)

banner towing

skydive pilot

traffic watch

pipeline patrol

fish spotting

ferry pilot

aerial survey

...and instructing with the additional CFI certificate.

Get ideas on how to build time here-

http://www.flightinfo.com/buildtime.htm

career info-

http://www.pilotcareer.info

*http://www.rodmachado.com/Articles/Loggi...|||The current regional requirements are very low. Not enough to get into the right seat of most private jets. I instructed about 1300 to 1400 hours (1600 hours total time) before getting a twin turboprop gig. (Did some instructing after that, too, but not to %26quot;build time%26quot;. My later instructing was exclusively as an instrument instructor and in complex aircraft transition.) Had over 2,800 hours, a jet type rating, an ATP and all instructor ratings, and turboprop time, before landing a jet gig. So, 500 hours of single engine piston time and wet ink on a multi rating in earned in a Seminole are collectively minimal. But legal. Instruct, banner-tow, traffic watch, pipeline inpection are typical entry-level single-engine piston jobs. For the sake of your students, do take your instructing seriously at least for the time that you decide to actively instruct.|||most people get to that number by being a flight instructor.. but with the industry snatching up every pilot it can get its hands on right now, you should throw your resume out there even if you only have 250 hours.. like northwest, they were starving for pilots a few months ago and i heard they dropped their requirements down to just having the proper certificates.. i just graduated in april.. i got a job with a cargo operator with 275 hours total time and 13 hours of multi time.. never had a flying job before.. just talk to people, find out who is in the most need and be willing to pack your bags and move away..|||The best way is to become a flying instructor. It serves two purposes.

1, It is an easy way to build flight hours

2, You aircraft knowledge increases which is handy to know when you get tested in the interview by the regionals or majors.

If flying instructing isn%26#039;t for you. Your only other hope is going to remote areas and seeing if you can get some charter work. ie; scenic flights or flights out to remote bush strips.|||I flight instructed for most of my time. And the rest i paid for out of my pocket.

How to properly resign in a job after less than a month?

It%26#039;s a disappointing job than what I hoped for, but thankful that I%26#039;m occupied nonetheless. Now, the job I really wanted came 2 weeks late. How can I make the most proper resignation and is there a way (or is it expected) that i could make up for the training they gave me for two weeks?|||Well the first thing you want to do is be very professional about this. You need to first talk to your boss-- and not your coworker first.

Start off by telling them that you have enjoyed working for the company but your job isn%26#039;t exactly what you had expected. Let your boss know that you will be giving them your two week resignation.

Thank them again for the opportunity and time invested into your employment and offer assistance for the transition process before you depart from the company--( this could be recommending someone else for the position, helping your boss with recruiting another prospective employee etc). Remember to continue to work hard as ever, in other words do your best all the way to the end because even though you are leaving you want to leave on good terms because your current employer could actually turn out to be a great business reference for you and just in case your new job doesn%26#039;t work out the doors may still be open for you to return to your old job. Good luck!|||Just give them a letter thanking them for the opportunity, but a more awarding career opportunity has come available to you. Your last day will be ___? If it was best for them to fire you they wouldn%26#039;t give you that courtesy. If you only been there two weeks and quit then the company doesn%26#039;t want anyone you refer.

Can I work a cashier job handling alcohol in Washington if I am not 18, but an emancipated minor?

I am 17 and a citizen of Washington State. I need to earn extra income, but essentially the only jobs around the area would include selling tobacco and alcohol. Can I apply for a job like this if I am an emancipated minor? Thanks.|||No, the law sets the age at 18 and makes no provisions or exceptions for emancipated minors.|||Generally, if it%26#039;s in a closed container and you work in a supermarket, convenience store, or discount store, it isn%26#039;t a problem. I know that, with regard to tobacco products, in the state of California, these are kept in locked cabinets and the manager gets these for the customers. For the alcoholic beverages, so long as the container is closed, there is no problem.|||I would highly doubt it

I%26#039;d assume that being an emancipated minor does not give immunity to that law as they%26#039;re pretty unrelated|||No, I don%26#039;t believe so. But you can always ask the manager of where ever you are talking about.|||Depends on the laws in your state. In my state you have to be atleast 19 to sell alcohol.|||no

How can I get a job as a hospital receptionist?

I have receptionist/administrative assistant experience but I am having a hard time finding a job. I want to work at a hospital because I%26#039;d love to work from 7 pm to 7 am. This would allow me to go back to school during the days and finish up my degree. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions about how I can get a job at a hospital as a receptionist or an admission rep?|||This is a easy one for me. Since you have experience , try for a unit coordinator, Go to every hospital systems web site and apply on line. If you don%26#039;t hear anything continue to apply, then call if you don%26#039;t get any response. I know first hand that they will get tired of all of the calls and applications that they will finally check your references. I definitely have the experience, I just don%26#039;t know if there is some secret to getting these jobs. Is there anyone (bartender) that knows some tricks of where, when, and how to go about this. How do I quit a job and remain on good terms with the company?

How do I quit a job and remain on good terms with the company? I have quit two jobs and for both have left on bad terms with my boss. They seemed to get mad.|||ALWAYS give at least two weeks notice. You%26#039;ve been burning your bridges, always a bad idea, esp for reference purposes.|||It all depends what kind of job you have? To leave in good terms you should always give a written notice, 1-2 weeks or a month depending on the job. That will give them enough time to replace you if necessary. And if they don%26#039;t well thats not your problem cuz you did your part. In the notice write positive things about the company or job that you did that you enjoyed! this is just a small example...

To whom it may concern:

This is a letter to inform you that I will no longer be working for this company. I really enjoyed working here and the people were great! But It%26#039;s time for me to pursue a different path, explain maybe the hours, schedule, pay doesn%26#039;t isn%26#039;t working for you or Whatever the case may be just be honest. If they still get upset well thats their problem, but you did the right thing! So really there is no reason for them to get mad! I hope this helps. Good Luck!|||There is no way to know how your boss will react when you give notice.

Just go to him/her, give proper notice, usually 2 weeks, and hope for the best.

It usually doesn%26#039;t go well for a number of reasons which have little or nothing to do with you! Remember the manager is thinking about your replacement and training and the schedule etc etc and gets so caught up in the future headaches they take it out on you.

Just be polite and work your 2 weeks. You never know who you will meet again in the workplace.|||Just tell them that you feel that you%26#039;ve outlived your potential and it%26#039;s time to move on. You%26#039;ve loved the experience and working for them and you wish them the best of luck. You might also make sure that you give adaquate notice so they can find someone to replace you.|||The best thing to do is be as honest as possible and give plenty of notice. Sometimes people take things personally and there is nothing you can do about it, but by being professional, you can decrease that risk.

How does one get a job at a top engineering or computers company?

Examples include:

Yahoo!

Ebay

Cisco Systems

Adobe

Google

(etc.)

I am looking to get a top job at one of these types of companies. What majors should I consider? What schools should I look at?

Also: What about the above questions for a job in the aerospace industry?

Thanks, your input is greatly appreciated.|||1. Join the company at the bottom of the employment ladder and excell at your job and climb the ladder to the position you want.

2. Go to university, study hard, then join the ladder at a higher position.

3. Get offered the position by someone who likes you that is already high up in the company .

4. Start at the bottom and offer sexual favours to all your managers then blackmail them for a promotion ;-)|||MIT, then you can make your own company for that list.|||it%26#039;s all about who ya know my friend....|||First of all, none of the companies you have named are %26quot;top engineering companies%26quot;. They may be top from a business standpoint, but from an engineering standpoint, you%26#039;d learn more at a startup. I have friends who have worked at Ebay and Cisco (as engineers) and they left because they were miserable.

Anyway, just keep applying.. one will take you... eventually.

Warning: by the time a company becomes a high-flyer, it is already too late to get in on the ground floor.|||You go to their website and look for a job description. Then you apply for that job. They will ask you to come in for an interview, if they are interested. You go there and try to look good. Then HR will call you... or not.

By the way, among your list only one company is any good. You don%26#039;t want to work for Yahoo, Ebay, Cisco, Adobe. For different reasons... but I have heard stories about any one of these which do not make me want to recommend them as workplaces.

Google will most likely not take you, they only take the best and the brightest.

Good Luck! And don%26#039;t say you have not been warned if you happen to end up in a slaughterhouse for engineers...|||You have to find a company that does

computers work, none of those companies do.

They%26#039;re networking companies,

non engineering companies.|||First of all, they look into our career record, like percentages must be above 75%,having good attitude and communication skills.if u have all the above u put ur resume in job web sites, then immediateli they willhire u or find where they are conducting interviews and go there and apply there,if ur profile matches to their requirement, they will hire u

Can a job take taxes out of your check without you filling out any paperwork?

I work at a restaurant in NYC and we%26#039;ve always gotten paid without taxes being taken out of our checks. We instead claim the money and pay taxes every year to the government. I just found out the job is going to start taking taxes out of people%26#039;s checks without notifying them first and without having us fill out any paperwork such as a W-2 or I-9 form. Is this legal?|||Just for your info. www.irs.gov, individual, withholding calculator, complete the forms and at the end, you can print out your own completed w-4.

You can update this at anytime..

good luck %26amp; bless %26amp; MUCHO TIPS|||Yes, it%26#039;s legal. They might have gotten some heat from the labor department or worker%26#039;s comp for paying you as independent contractors when you really weren%26#039;t. If they start paying you as employees, they need you to fill out a w-4 form to get your social security number and withholding information. They should also have you fill out an I-9 form. This form is used to verify citizenship.|||If you are employees, the business is REQUIRED to take out taxes - if they haven%26#039;t been up to now, they%26#039;ve been doing something illegal, and it sounds like they are now trying to correct it. The business doesn%26#039;t keep the taxes - they submit them to the federal and state governments on a regular basis, in your name.

So to start taking out taxes, which they should have been doing all along, is not only legal, it%26#039;s legally required for them to do.

If you%26#039;ve been paying taxes anyway on your own, this won%26#039;t cost you any extra, and will probably end up costing you less since now you%26#039;ll only be paying half of the social security and medicare instead of both halves - the employer will now be paying their half. If you%26#039;ve just been collecting your pay in cash and NOT paying the taxes on it, then you also have been doing something illegal.

An I-9 form is supposed to be filled out for every employee when they start work. This document verifies that the person is legally permitted to work in the US.

A W-4 form is required for each employee. That%26#039;s the form the employee uses to let the employer know how much income tax to withhold from their pay. If there is no W-4 on file yet for the employee, then there are laws on how much they withhold. If you don%26#039;t get a W-4 form to fill out shortly, then ask your boss for one, or download one at irs.gov, fill it out, and give it to him or her.

A W-2 is the form you get at the end of the year showing how much you made and what was withheld. You don%26#039;t fill that out, the employer does.|||Sounds like your employer has been jacked up for not paying payroll taxes.

The I-9 has nothing to do with taxes; it%26#039;s for proof of legal entitlement to work in the US. The W-2 is what you%26#039;ll get from them next January.

Obviously you were notified, since you know about it.

You will be asked to fill out a Form W-4. Or you could just download it from the IRS website, fill it in, and give it to your employer.|||It%26#039;s illegal for them not to take taxes out. They can get in trouble for that with the IRS. The only way they can do this legally is to list you as an independant contractor and give you a 1099 at the end of the year. Then they are covered if you don%26#039;t pay your taxes. They are in their legal rights to put everyone on a standard payroll system and have taxes taken out of their pay. Most insurance companies will not insure a business without a payroll system because if keeps track of who is employed and who is not. If you do not fill out a w-4 form then they have the right to put you at the highest taxed which is single no dependents. It is in your best interest to be on payroll. This way you have unemployment benefits and medicare and social security being paid by your employer and you so if you ever need it this money it is there for you. And the I-9 has nothing to do with taxes it is to find out if you are legally allowed in this country and working.|||I believe all businesses over a certain size are required to withhold federal, employment, and income taxes, unless you are considered an independant contractor.|||Form W-4 is for tax and I-9 is to check illegal to work or not.

IRS and state want you tax money before you touch it. I think the tax rule change, while employee earn more than a certain amount the employer had to have the tax take out from the payroll. Fill out the forms now and keep you money.|||They are doing what they should have been doing. If you are an employee. you are supposed to have taxes withhheld from your check(federal income tax, state income tax, social security tax, and medicare tax) But they are supposed to have you fill out a W-4 form.|||No because you don%26#039;t authorize them to do so. the purpose of a from w4 is for the employer to withold the correct amount of federal tax from your paycheck. As of Form I-9, well it MUST be completed at time of hire. You can offer them to fill out form W-9 which is the independent contractor form and they will give you a 1099 at the end of the year. They are really not suppose to start you on payroll without proper paperwork.

Is being a comercial pilot a good job? Enjoyable or just stressful?

I imagine being a commercial pilot is a fun job. Obviously not. I%26#039;ve seen several people on this page just complaning about being pilots and urging pilot hopefuls to stay away from the career field. It%26#039;s apparently not the best money in the world. I heard it%26#039;s one of the most stressful jobs. And If you pilots hate your jobs so much (at least thats the vibe I%26#039;m getting but correct me if I%26#039;m wrong) why did you decide to be pilots?|||The flying is fun, and everyone likes that on clear sunny days.. and when you get days and weeks off all over the world... it seems great... because IT IS.... but for all the good parts... and there are a LOT of them... there is a dark side that most candidates do not know about. If I can talk you out of being a pilot... then you should not have been one in the first place anyway. (IMHO) It really is a job that takes more focus and dedication than most. Sounds to be a big statement... but remember that you are going to be re-qualified EVERY year, and depending on your job, can be twice a year.. and if you are flying more than one type of aircraft.. 3 or more times a year... Go ask your family doctor when he was requalified last.. or your highschool teacher, college professor.. and the answer will be the same.... huh??? Bear in mind also, that you don%26#039;t just screw up a test and get to retake it... your records are maintained by your company for the Federal Government.. and EVERY checkride, oral exam, written exam, line check, etc... is recorded along with the results. EVERY job you apply for.. the first thing they are going to do is pull your records...and if you had any problems along the way... you will be explaining them. Most pilots (more than 50%) have a CLEAN record... probably higher percentage than that... no mistakes, no retesting, no failures.. so the bar is set high... If you get a DWI... you have a major problem that will disqualify you on the spot for most jobs. As with anything else... when there is a shortage... it might be overlooked.. but that doesn%26#039;t happen very often. Since 9/11... there have been no shortages... Now, for instructors, there is almost always a shortage because it is the lowest paying least desireable job there is in aviation. I would rather pump gas than teach basic Private Pilot.

So it becomes a career of compromises... where you are going to live, the plane you will fly, the schedule you will work, the money you will make are balanced against your %26quot;quality of life%26quot; issues. What is more important to you... being near your family, or advancing your career? Then you will see the great divide.. some guys will walk in to ask directions for some other job.. and be offered a job on the spot... while you beat your head against the wall trying to get the same job for years. You will see complete and total idiots out online, that are down right dangerous... and they make it through training.. and you will say goodbye to a friend in your hire class that was washed out that was a much better pilot. That%26#039;s the way it goes sometimes. You will constantly be making decisions on what job to take or pass, move or stay... and all the while you will be dealing with a very unsympathetic company that is only concerned with the bottom line. You lose an engine, and fly the remainder of the flight perfectly smooth, nail the landing and taxi to the gate (if they let you) and the people getting off are grateful.. but the company sees only that you did what you were trained to do... so don%26#039;t get too excited about your work.

You start out VERY proud, excited, enthusiastic.. and it just grinds you down over the years. You see other guys go on to real estate, software development..etc.. and they are making 3 to 4 times the money and home every night...this might not be for you...

I would not urge someone to NOT be a pilot... I started flying when I was 16, and I still fly now, just not for a living... I still love it.. but I don%26#039;t miss the crap.. and there is a LOT of crap that goes with it.|||First thing is that the best thing about aviation is that there is nobody in an aviation career who does not want to be there. Second of all the airlines are laying off many employees but this will change one day once the oil company%26#039;s raise there prices to high for all modes of transport everybody will stop buying and the oil company%26#039;s will be forced to drastically reduce their prices or they will just completely go bankrupt all together. And another thing is that being a pilot is an incredible job besides are you going to pay over a thousand dollar%26#039;s just to fly coach to Paris. Well if not how about being payed to fly to Paris? Those that encourage aviation enthusiast to stay away are not pilot%26#039;s them selfs. Once you taste flight you will never go back.|||lludwig3 Says it all. Im still flying 34 years later and I%26#039;ve been through everything he said and its true.

Right now with 6 years to retirement I dig my head in the sand and accept what the company gives me ,ie salary days off leave benefits , all declining I might add, and go fly the airplane .which I still enjoy . No matter where it takes me or what I fly I enjoy the flying.

If I had to do it again I would%26#039;nt fly for a living. So if there is some other job you could see yourself enjoying and the pay is good then do that instead .Later on you will be able to buy you own airplane and go to where you want with it.|||See this link. It answers many questions on commercial pilot%26#039;s life.

Good Luck...|||its one of the best paid careers you can have.

BA and Emirates are paying their long-haul captains up to $250,000-$300,000 a year!|||to me it would be stressful and lots of airlines are now even

layoff pilots as well|||Both

It depends how you take it|||Being an airline pilot is a great job when you are single and 25 years old. It%26#039;s one of the worst jobs in the world when you are 30-something, married and have a family. Being gone every weekend and holiday wears on you after a while. Not to mention having to miss every one of your kids birthdays, soccer games, etc. That%26#039;s why I got out and went back to a career in engineering.

There are a lot of grumpy pilots out there. Remember, that every single one of them once dreamed of nothing more than being a pilot one day. It just happens.

That%26#039;s why so many of us say to have a backup plan. This is a tough career. The excitement of taking off and landing a jet will wear off eventually (most likely very quickly). There will come a time where you have been to all the cool cities your airline travels too and they all feel like any other city in the world. Then comes the furlough and the fear of loosing your house. Eventually, the fun part of it is gone. After all that happens, it takes a certain type of person, and most importantly their spouse, to continue with it. Being gone 50% of the time, or more... is it worth it? Some say yes, others say no.

Again, every airline pilot out there, including the ones who hate their jobs, was once a kid who dreamed of flying an airplane for a living.

What are some important job interview skills?

I graduated college a few months ago and having a hard time landing a job. I%26#039;ve gotten interviews for jobs, but I can%26#039;t seem to get the jobs.

My job field is in the film and television world. I%26#039;ve looked at production/post production houses.

What are some basic and important job interview skills I should know before I go into an interview?|||First and foremost: proper preparation prevents poor performance! Go over some interview questions out loud with yourself. Make sure to shake everyone%26#039;s hands when you meet them and when you leave; thank them as well. Greet people by their names when they are introduced to you...

Make sure you thoroughly understand the position you are applying for as well as the department it is in. Read up on the company at their website; be familiar with their work; you may even be able to see pics of their staff and maybe even the person/people you will be interviewing with. This is really helpful because their faces will be familiar to you when you meet them; calms the nerves a bit.

You may want to bring some type of visual aid with you, something to show relevant work you have done, or something general that you can make relevant. For example a project that demonstrates creativity etc. Wait until they bring up a relevant point and then ask if they would like to see what you have brought.

If you don%26#039;t have much relevant work experience draw upon volunteer or college class work/projects. It will be up to you to demonstrate how they are relevant.

Another good point is to always have some basic follow up questions. You probably only want to ask 2 or three max. At least one standard is %26#039;what do you see as the most challenging part of the position%26#039;; try to follow their comment by saying you are familiar with whatever they say or briefly explaining that you can handle that situation etc.

The thank you note is an excellent idea so try to remember the names of the people you meet or ask for their business cards.

Basically an interview is about marketing and your product is your experience, knowledge, and creativity etc. You want to advertise these things and make them desirable to the company but try to avoid false advertising by exaggerating; stick to your true personality, experience etc.|||Hello lillylovelost,

The most important thing any job seeker should do before applying for a job is the learn what job interviews are all about. For example were you aware that job applicants that send the interviewer(s) a thank you note within 24 hours of the interview get the job most often!

Preparing for an interview is critical to getting the job!

How do you get a job working backstage for tv shows, set dressing, camera man etc?

I have always loved backstage of shows, sets, cameras etc and i love behind the scenes of shows but i was wondering how to get into these sorts of jobs. Do you need to go to university or can you get a job just with GCSEs and A-Levels, i am currently in A0Level sutdying Business Studies, Design and Geography but if there is a specific subject i need then i will consider re doing. Can anyone help. Thanks|||Hi Mate,

What did you have in mind with that set of A levels? What grades did you get?

I take it on you are on your AS year. What are you considering for UCAS next year?

Media is a very competitive industry and many decide early on to take a career in it. Humanities subjects help (history, sociology, psycology) for obvious reasons, as does english lit and media studies or art.

To work on a %26quot;set%26quot; as such is not as simple as turning up and asking for a job as a %26quot;camera man%26quot;, like you would working on a supermarket checkout. A levels are defineatly not enough to apply for jobs in the media industry.

What is required is a degree in the likes of journalism, history, media, sociology, cultural studies, sociology or most likely media production/communication. You%26#039;d be looking to also demonstrate maybe a portfolio of work or work experience.

Do you read the media guardian or keep up with the industry? Have you dont work experience?

The kind of career depends on what route you wish to take - camera operator or sound technician is very technical, production designers usually have creative/art backgrounds, then you have PR and marketing teams (you can do degrees in PR and marketing now), and costume design is a competitive field from graduates with an art background. Many people who are drafted in for a production do not come from the production company in house, but are also freelancers, so life can be hard and very competitive, living probably in London which is very expensive!

Just my two cents mate.

If a father quits his job does he not have to pay child support during the time he is out of work?

My sons father quit his job, a pretty good job I might add, because he and his fiance broke up. -She worked in the same place.

Anyway now he is planning on being a truck driver and is going to be out of work for a few months and making god knows what afterward.

Will he have to make up the money that he isn%26#039;t paying or is it just gone?

I am concerned because it has put me in a financial bind.|||it would take a lot for a judge to make a decision to lower the amount because he is out of work they would never allow him to stop paying and if he doesn%26#039;t pay he will have to make up for it.|||I don%26#039;t know the laws of your state concerning child support but most states, if the state is involved in the support collection, require the support to be paid, including all back support that he owes, some states even refuse to renew drivers liscenses and they will go after income tax returns and even jail time in the most extreme cases. If you haven%26#039;t gotten your state DSHS office involved in your child support problem you should do so immediately. I pay child support and have fallen behind at times of no work but have made sure that all monies owed were paid to my exwife and have worked with the state to make sure that they know where I am and who I work for. Don%26#039;t let him slide from his obligation|||If he is making a lot less he can take it to court and receive a judgement for a lower support amount. The court determines the support amount based on ability to pay.|||If you change employment, you are still obligated to whatever arrangements were made with the court. Whatever he was ordered to pay will stay in effect.

The courts always look at what is in the best interest of the child, so his reason for quitting will not give him any consideration with the court.

He is likely going to wind up with quite a bit of money owed.

I would suggest you talk to someone in the child support office before he gets too far behind. If he misses as much as one payment, they may suggest you take him back to court for contempt.|||Leaving work or even being fired does not legally suspend or terminate support. He will simply go into arrears and owe it in back support.

Courts don%26#039;t take kindly to those obligated to pay support who leave work, especially if they do it solely to get out of support. The courts will look into that.

At best, he can return to court and petition for a downward modification of the support order, but there are a lot of rules surrounding doing that that do not necessarily favor him.

Tighten up the belt, but maintain communication and be prepared to go back to court if you need to to enforce the support order through garnishment if necessary.

Whatever you do, don%26#039;t deny him visitation. That%26#039;s a horrible trend and doesn%26#039;t resolve the support issue. IT%26#039;s also not good for the child/children in the long run. Allow the visitation as that was probably ordered by the court and the court%26#039;s will not be happy if you used it to punish him for non-payment.|||I believe they will take his tax refund and send it to you, but that doesn%26#039;t help for now. Please talk to the local child support office about this.|||when he starts to work it will resume.. as for the back child support they more than likely will take his income tax ..|||Regardless of his financial situation, he is required to pay what the court has ordered. He%26#039;ll still have to pay what he hasn%26#039;t paid, but it may take awhile. You may have to go to court to get the court to up his payments to pay his back support.

One answerer said he can go to court to have his payments lowered if he is making a lot less money than he was before...and that is true. BUT if he is making a lot MORE money, then you can ask for a judgement to reflect that too.|||Being unemployed does not relieve a father of child support. The child still has to eat, have a home, clothes and other things.

If he were living with the child, he would be providing these things.

The courts will not look kindly upon him for quitting his job. The court will expect him to continue making regular child support payments.

If he doesn%26#039;t, take him to court....the judge will fix his butt.|||I%26#039;ve had to pay more in child support than I made, and when one employer ran off with the funds, I had to pay despite not having the income. One has to petition the court for relief when circumstances change in order to modify a child-support decree.|||He has to keep paying the amount that was ordered by the court until he asks the judge to give him a different order.

He will have to make up the back payments.

Contact the child support services department in your state for assistance.|||it really depends on what state you live in. I live in Tennessee and job or no job they are responsible. If they don%26#039;t pay in Tennessee they go to jail.

I needed to be home. I also had researched many so called opportunities and very skeptical of them all. I was introduced to Arbonne and it took me four months or researching before I realized that this was an amazing company with integrity and actualy pay well for my work. I met several ladies that were succesful and they were able to help train me and show me that this was real and based on my efforts. It has been a wonderful blessing to allow me to be homeand I have promoted quickly. Don%26#039;t get me wrong it takes work but it is on my schedule and I know it can be scary to think about investing financially into something you don%26#039;t know will work. If a builder went to build a home but didn%26#039;t bring any tools he wouldn%26#039;t get very far. The great part was that my investment was up to me not anyone else. What did I want to do with my opportunity and how quickly. The other thing that has a huge benefit is that I didn%26#039;t have to carry any inventory, or delivery products, or host parties. I simple share with people the benefits of Pure, Safe and Beneficial products, let them try a line in their home for a few days and then show them how to order online at a discount for themselves products are delivered direct to them. This fits my lifestyle and theirs. Anyway, hope this helps and feel free to contact me.|||I started out 4 years ago with the same question and tried lots of things. eBay worked for me. You can get started with no financial investment, see how it goes, and grow the business as you are comfortable with it.

How do you get a job as a postal carrier and how much is the starting salary?

Also, Is it very competitive to get a job a with the USPS or are there plenty of jobs available? Thanks!|||depending on where u live determines how many jobs are available. usually starts off anywhere from 16 to 20dollars an hr. if you live in a city like atlanta it may take anywhere from 3 to 5 yrs to become full time u will always start off part time or as a substitute does not matter where you live. the pay is good but it takes a long time to become full time in a big city. good luck

What is more important in a new job, job satisfaction or the salary and benefits?

I just started a new job in a small law firm. Even though my boss is a great employer and also new, everything else is negative and a lot of backbiting and ambiguity. The salary package is good but is that enough? Where does job satisfaction rate in the whole picture? Suggestions welcomed..|||You know, in probably any other field, I%26#039;d say self-satisfaction is most important, but %26quot;back biting and ambiguity%26quot; are trademarks of the legal profession. I%26#039;m afraid you%26#039;ll find it anywhere in that one! Look, be yourself, and do your best not to change over the years. Remember this question and how you felt and it will help you. I think you are lucky with that type of boss and it should help you along. GL and congrats! Sorry about the rest though. God bless.|||Compared to most people I am nowhere near normal so there%26#039;s not much point in me telling you my opinion here, lol I am leaving the whole lot, including the nation with it :)

But what I%26#039;ll say is that you are the only one that can decide.

Can you deal with it? Good. Can you not? Leave, but be careful as ambiguity is everywhere.

How can I fill out job apps when my history was messed up due to a termination?

I was recently termanated from a job for attendence becuase I was hospitalized several times. How can I fill out applications to make this not show up and will I be refused for it?

Do I have to use this last job, can I just neglect to put it on paper? Can companies look it up?|||Just be honest.. If it was due to hospitalization, they shouldn%26#039;t hold that against you.|||You are best just telling them a bit about the situation. They can review your credit history which may show you last employer. They can not look into your health history. Your not the first to have health problems.|||Yes, you should put it on your resume. You don%26#039;t need to say you were terminated, but be prepared to explain the situation.

Things happen to all of us at one point in our life.

Assuming you are better now. Companies will be interested in how you overcame your problem.

Be positive!|||Put it down on the application. If your health problems have now been resolved, it isn%26#039;t likely to be a problem.

Believe it or not, you aren%26#039;t the only person who ever got fired for something like this.|||if you do neglect it, you have to explain what you were doing during the %26quot;gap%26quot; Just put on there, terminated due to medical reasons.|||Do not leave this job off your application. Many companies check your work history and everything will come up on the report, including jobs that you did not disclose. However if you are not comfortable disclosing that you were terminated, it is important for you to know that when doing employment verifications companies cannot disclose that you were terminated. Therefore, you don%26#039;t have to worry about the company you%26#039;re applying with finding this out.|||I would just not list that employer to avoid any problems.|||Always be truthful about how you were terminated; if you lie or omit it, it will come back to haunt you.|||Do your homework....Know exactly why you were terminated, and be prepared to respond to ANY issue your previous employer had.

Showing confidence and owning up to the truth can NEVER be a bad thing.

What to say in response to a job rejection letter?

I just received a rejection email for a job that I applied online for. I was a perfect fit for the position. I met or exceeded all of their hiring criteria and sent my resume within a few days of the job posting on the internet. They never even called me for an interview.

I%26#039;m planning to email them back. I%26#039;d like to find out why they weren%26#039;t interested in interviewing me and if it would make sense for me to apply for other jobs with them in the future.

What should I say in the letter?|||It would be perfectly acceptable to ask why you were not considered for an interview since you went to the trouble to submit your resume. etc. Just be careful how you word such a question. First tell them you are disappointed since you felt that you qualifications were more than a match for the job outlined. Ask for your own information and to assist with future job application what happened that you did not receive an interview. Say something that would keep the door open for future positions

This is one of the difficulties associated with applying for a job and try not to take it personally. Often there are reasons why they chose someone else like they are relatives or friends kids. You just have to make yourself feel that they passed up a perfect candidate and it is their loss.|||thank them for the opportunity to speak with them and you never know, they may just remember you and your abilities and call you on a lark|||You do not respond to a job rejection.|||You don%26#039;t contact them; it is not appropriate. Should something with the same company come up in the future, simply reapply.|||Odds are they%26#039;ll keep your resume on file anyways.

As roughly said in Rocky Balboa, %26#039;no matter what, theres always going to be some guy better than you%26#039;, and you just have to accept that they beat you to this job and move on.|||Write back saying.....Well FUkc you then!! LOL|||Just tell them that you are very interested in joining the company and politely ask if you may reapply for future positions. Do not ask why you didn%26#039;t get an interview.|||Ask if they received your application.

If they did, ask what it was that meant you didn%26#039;t get the job, what additional qualifications were needed (if any).|||Dear Mr. English:

Writing this letter is optional, but doing so is a good idea. It leaves the door open for you to apply to the firm sometime in the future when your qualifications have changed and is a way of maintaining a good relationship with the company. In the opening, thank the company for their time and consideration of your application and qualifications.

Use the body of your letter to discuss your positive impressions of the company. You might mention interviews that you had with company representatives, information you learned about the company during your application process, and any specific people who were particularly helpful or kind to you during the process.

Close the letter by mentioning the possibility of future contact with the company. Remain optimistic and thankful that the company considered your application.

Sincerely,

Lucy Letter

What is an alternative to job decriptions for a small business?

I have been researching job descriptions, the pro%26#039;s and cons, the hows and so on for our small business. The goals behind job descriptions are very good, however most managers and employees grumble and complain and drag their feet on them. Is there a better approach? Tessie|||Hi,

You can check out http://careerguide.careerdirection.info for some useful info and tips. Good luck!|||Be careful with all of these sites that promise to earn you thousands of dollars by working from home!!!

This is actually a pretty common scam used on college students so keep an eye out. If any of them ask you to put in some of your own money before you get paid then that%26#039;s a good sign that it may be a scam.

Some of them may ask you to sell stuff for them, but you%26#039;ll have to buy the product from them first then go out and try to find some suckers that will want to buy it. They%26#039;ll make it sound very appealing by giving you some figures of how much you can earn, but the reality is that most people wont sell much and they will just end up with boxes of unusable goods to store.

The other danger is that some sites will make you fill out a phony application that will be used to steal your identity. Unless it%26#039;s a reputable company that you%26#039;ve heard of, don%26#039;t apply for any job online.

Finally, be careful with those jobs that promise to pay you for stuffing envelopes. I knew of a few people that never go paid doing that.

The best job for you may be working in a book store (you can get discounts on some of those textbooks), record store, coffee shop, or waitering in a restaurant (the tips can easily bring you up the 10/hour rate). These jobs usually have flexible hours for college students. You may also look into jobs related to the field you want to study.

Good luck!

How do you quit a job given by a family friend because of asthma?

Due to being in college, I need a flexible schedule to be able to work somewhere. A family friend offered me a job working for her cleaning company, but I found out on my first day that I would be around ALOT of cigarette smoke. %26quot;I didn%26#039;t realise when I said yes that this job would have this effect on my asthma. Sorry but I think it would be better if I left. I really appreciate you helping me out like this though.%26quot;

Simple, honest and straightforward.|||tell them nicely that u want to quit the job because of ur asthma..

tell them that u can%26#039;t stand the cigarette smoke...

don%26#039;t be afraid...|||Be honest. Let her know that you appreciate the job, but your asthma flares up at the job and you don%26#039;t think it would be a benefit for you or her if you kept working there. As a friend, she should understand that your health is important.|||Just be honest about it and be sure to thank them for the job even though it didn%26#039;t work out.|||Remember, business is business and friendship is friendship. You and your friend should separate the two, and you%26#039;ll be fine. When you go to your friend to quit, tell them up front that this is a business decision, this has nothing to do with the friendship, then say why you can%26#039;t work there anymore.

I used to work for some friends of mine, and the guy was having a hard time letting me go after a while, just because of this same problem. How do I find a good engineering job?

I go to a school that%26#039;s not heavily recruited. But I%26#039;m still pulling a 3.9 GPA in ME. I want a hard job in engineering that will let me travel and make me think! For the time being I%26#039;d love to just get experience as an intern or at a part time job. Shoot - I%26#039;d even slow down my degree progress if I could land an interesting full time position. But I can%26#039;t seem to find them - internships, part time, or full-time jobs. Everyone wants someone who has five or more years of experience.

Are you an engineer? Do you recruit them? What do you suggest? Thank you!|||Slow down your degree process? Do you mean take a full time position and go to school part time? I wouldn%26#039;t recommend it, as most people who do never finish. You end up in a designer position that can only be promoted to an engineer after receiving the degree.

Monster, Monstertrak, Careerbuilder, Hotjobs, Net-Temps are all good resources for experienced professionals, but sometimes do list entry level and internships. My best advice as an engineering recruiter is to build a list of local engineering and manufacuturing companies, call and ask who the Engineering Manager is (don%26#039;t tell them it%26#039;s for a resume or they%26#039;ll direct you to HR) and mail a hard copy of your resume directly to them. If you can%26#039;t get the name then address it to %26quot;Director of Engineering%26quot;. II sent 50 of these out for my husband, also a Mechanical Engineer, and received 10 interview requests and several offers.

Another trick is to call other local/popular engineering colleges and pretend to be a prospective student, and ask their career center what companies recruit/hire their engineers. Be sure to send those companies resumes since they actively seek entry level grads %26amp; interns.

How do I get a job when past boss poisoned my personnel file?

Just found out that 2 years ago my old boss put a poisonous bogus performance review and denial of rehire in my permanent personnel file. It%26#039;s 2 late 2 sue. I%26#039;ve been to 23 professional level job interviews since them and once they check my job history then I am history. How can I rebuild my ruined employment reputation?|||i am sorry that this happens to you. maybe you can volunteer at the senior center, library, hospital , etc. for a while. also, perhaps you can try to get a part time job at the department store while looking for others. i really do not think that it is fair for any employer to do this, and i have heard about this more than once and someone i know have been through it. i hope everything works out for you. good luck.|||If you have solid proof that this review is inaccurate, then you should speak to HR at that company and address it with them.

Depending on where you are, you should consider looking into employment law and how it applies to negative references.

Lastly, consider taking the job off of your background until this is resolved.|||At the point on an application where it says %26quot;reason for leaving%26quot; you write%26quot;Will explain in interview.%26quot;

Once you are in the interview, you follow this 4 point plan.

1.Admit that there was a problem

2. State that it was in the past

3. Say what you learned from it

4. Change the subject.
